Update: the image (taken from the Christian Science Monitor) is actually not that new. South Sudan is not even on the map! For the pointer, thanks Marc.

1) Bordering on ironic that (what I imagine is) a typo on Saudi Arabia’s net land deals in Sudan is cited as 2.27 “billion” acres, which is considerably more land than Sudan has.
2)Similarly noteworthy that whoever did create the image hasn’t included South Sudan (not sure when it was published)
3) Is the “Rich Clabaugh/Staff” attribution not the end of the line? He creates graphics for Christian Science Monitor — could be that they borrowed it and also don’t know the attribution.
Yep, you are right about the typo and about the origin of the image (it should be from the CSM). And I just realized that the image is not as recent as I thought. If I understood correctly, it was published in 2011 before the independence of South Sudan. Thanks for pointing that out!
